I bought a new car today, the sum of the car comparison I did over the past month. I bought the Hyundai Veloster
Just bought my Veloster today, After everything I'd posted already, just yesterday my phone rang and the dealership I'd called to see if they had what I wanted called me back after 2 or 3 days after telling me they couldn't locate the car I wanted, basics with stick shift, no sunroof, no upgraded option stereo, and in white. I called the dealership I was told about, GOScH Hyundai http://www.goschhyundai.com/ , from the info that Kearny Mesa Hyundai gave me, and Mark at GOScH went out, put his hands on it to verify that it had nothing but the color I wanted, and at 4 pm, I told him I'd be there when they opened to buy it.
I had the best dealership of the dozen I've been to this month, and they are one of the most remote... 15 miles from the 215 at the 15 215 split is the small town of Hemet.. 100 miles from where I live roughly, is GOScH Hyundai.
Price of a coke is the lowest at 50 cents, of any dealership or any business I've been to in years. Nice people, Mark Link was my salesman, Paul is the manager. It took about 3 hours, and that's about typical in my 2 new car purchases this year, but I've never bought new cars before. No surprises, unlike San Diego's Courtesy Chevrolet in Mission Valley, who made mistakes, forgot paperwork, and I had to go back to to resign all the contract stuff.
Expect to spend about 2 thou over the window sticker, for the Teflon and interior treatment, extended warranty (tell them you'll only pay 1350, not 1650 for the 10 120k miles) and double check the way the rear auxiliary reflectors are mounted, one of mine isn't in correctly.

Also the Hyundai Assurance is something to the effect that if you lose your job, Hyundai will take it back...
The dealership cleaning/detailing has me upset, they weren't taking their time to do it right.. I'm talking about the front and side windows not getting fully swiped, you can see the missed areas.
Even with the lack of a perfect cleaning, I am still recommending GOScH Hyundai.

Hyundai has more problems
Update... Alan called me back, and hadn't been able to get ahold of the dealership that is reported to have that car. He didn't call me back the next day, when he did find out something, he let his boss call me instead, and I talked to the sales manager. Nice guy, not very sharp. After I told him I only will buy a white Hyundai Veloster, he went on to tell me about red cars, blue cars, Elantras and other Hyundais. So I repeated my decision of white, because he may have forgotten in the disappointment that he must feel at not being able to sell the colors that people do not want, and reminding him that I will buy a White Veloster.
He said that the dealership the White Veloster wouldn't part with it in a dealership trade.
I called them today. I learned the truth.
They don't have the basic Veloster in White, they don't have any White Veloster. They have an invoice on a computer telling them that a White optioned to the max Veloster, that costs thousands more, and has options I don't want (sunroof, chrome grill, 450 watt stereo with subwoofer) and won't pay for isn't there yet, but is supposed to be on it's way.
So, no White Veloster.
Hyundai has problems, salesmen that aren't honest, sales managers that aren't honest, a lack of cars in the available color I want, and me... a guy who decided to buy the basic Veloster they make, in a basic color, but isn't going to be getting the car that Hyundai advertises that they make. Hyundai has 2 problems. The first is no supply of cars to their dealerships.
The second is that I am going to buy a White Veloster, and they don't have one in California to sell me. Call me conceited, but I've got a couple thousand readers a day, a blog that gets good peer reviews, and a bad attitude about wanting something I can afford but am not going to get when I want it.
So the second problem is that they are disappointing the guy who blogs about cars, every day. I doubt I'll have anything pleasant to say about Hyundai any time soon, while they frustrate me with their lack of manufacturing and distribution abilities

Hyundai i40 EuroCarBody Champion 2011
Hyundai i40 EuroCarBody Champion 2011 - Hyundai successfully earned a Golden Award EuroCarBody Conference and was awarded five stars in Euro NCAP test, for variants of i40, in Frankfurt, Germany.
Hyundai is able to set aside nine other established manufacturers from Europe and Japan. Hyundai also became the first South Korean manufacturer that is able to achieve awards and captured the attention of the observer 500 automotive.
Hyundai i40 achieved the highest points, 37.98 points, from 50 points maximum. In the second place there is the Audi A6, which stood at 35.86 points, and following the Mercedes Benz B-Class in the third position by collecting 34.66 points.
Hyundai i40 has three optional engines with 1.6 liter gasoline engine and two 1.7-liter diesel engine. With a choice of three trim levels namely Active, Style and Premium. An automatic transmission gearbox available as an option on high-powered diesel engine.
Standard features include a prepared 16-inch alloy wheels, electric mirrors, Bluetooth and an electronic parking brake. Satellite navigation, rear parking camera, leather upholstery and keyless entry are available on most models high. While warning systems, as well as ventilated front seats available as an optional choice.
All i40 sedan saloon will have seven airbags as standard safety, along with stability control and hill-start assist. Version with Blue Drive technology will get the engine stop-start system as standard car, which helped set CO2 emissions below 120g/km.

Giant car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Co. of South Korea. (HMC) has launchedits first electric car BLueOn. The plan, environmentally friendly vehicles will bemass produced in 2012.
BlueON use the base with the i10 motive power battery which diporoduksi by SKEnergy with a capacity of 16.4 kilowatts per hour. Hatchback vehicles can run 140 km on a single charge at speeds of 130 km per hour maksumum.
According to the HMC as quoted by Reuters, for the time being BlueOn will be produced for government agencies, consumers are being allocated for 2,500 units in 2012. "Too early to say where and when BlueOn introduced.
Recognized by Hyundai that they have made a premature move against BlueOn."Because, infrastructure such as battery charging stations in Korea and someother countries have not been there," explained one of the HMC.
But there is little information that to create up to produce BlueON, HMC hasinvested U.S. $ 34 million or Rp312, 8 billion. Apparently, BlueOn project wouldsucceed, the article of the country's ginseng has a program to swap 20 percent of passenger vehicles with electric-tech.

So, I'm buying a car, and told the salesguy what I wanted. He was an idiot. He didn't tell me he'd get it, (I want a white car and they didn't have one) and sell it to me.
When anyone walks in and tells a salesman they are here to buy... the only thing the salesman should do is tell that customer, I'm here to get you that car, what would you like.
That isn't what happened today. I said I want a white one. The salesguy said, we don't have a white one.
THAT WAS STUPID
I said get it, I'm here to buy it, I'll be back when you get it here.
HE SAID "SIGN THIS CONTRACT FIRST"
IDIOT
I told him, I don't sign anything til I see that car I want. Then you give me the sales contract, and you get a commission, I get a car, we're both happy.
THIS IDIOT DOESN"T GET IT. I mean him, not me.
He believes that the dealership (included in this conversation was the manager) refuses to get me the car I'm in the showroom floor to buy. UNLESS I SIGN PAPERWORK.
I guess me telling him that I'm gonna go get the car from where it's at doesn't faze him.... Cause that is what I'll do.
But I'm not stupid either, I called one of the other 5 dealerships in San Diego and here's how that conversation goes... I'm telling you because you are still reading, and I figure you're a person who likes what I have to say about cars or you wouldn't be reading my blog anyway...

I said " You are the right guy, here's what I want"
he told me there is only one available in the state of California.
I said "Get it, I want it, I've already compared the rest of the cars, and this is the one for me."

Federal Tax Credit for the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The Hyundai Hybrid received an EPA rating of 36/40 mpg city/highway. That put it below the Ford Fusion Hybrid, which got the full tax credit of $3,400. But then, Ford has already sold the 60,000 hybrid cars that put it over the limit, forcing the tax credits to phase out back in April. Toyota and Honda hybrids ran out of tax credits much sooner than that.
The price has not been released yet on the Sonata Hybrid.

Can Hyundai Get to 50 MPG?
Hyundai announced their plans to reach 50 mpg fleetwide by 2025. That's for all of its passenger cars and light duty trucks. That's a really impressive goal, considering the most fuel efficient car they have in the US right now gets 30 mpg combined.
But this is by CAFE rules, where Hyundai is the leader at 30.9 mpg fleetwide. By 2016, the NHTSA is requiring automakers to get to 35.5 mpg. So, even the most fuel efficient automakers still have some ground to make up.
"We're committed to setting the pace in this industry on fuel economy, and we're inspired by the possibilities that our advanced Blue Drive technologies afford," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America president and CEO. "Getting to 50 mpg and beyond seems like a huge leap, but by making this commitment and aligning our R&D initiatives now, we know we can get there."
This is a stretch goal, so maybe it's not achievable. But, with the vehicles Hyundai has in its pipleine, the 50 mpg goal is possible. That is, if people are willing to buy them.
Hyundai is working on improvements and innovation in powertrains including gasoline direct injection, turbocharging, electric hybrids, plug-in hybrids, light-weight materials and design, and more. These are all part of their Blue Drive strategy.

"We're committed to setting the pace in this industry on fuel economy, and we're inspired by the possibilities that our advanced Blue Drive technologies afford," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America president and CEO. "Getting to 50 mpg and beyond seems like a huge leap, but by making this commitment and aligning our R&D initiatives now, we know we can get there."
This is a stretch goal, so maybe it's not achievable. But, with the vehicles Hyundai has in its pipleine, the 50 mpg goal is possible. That is, if people are willing to buy them.
Hyundai is working on improvements and innovation in powertrains including gasoline direct injection, turbocharging, electric hybrids, plug-in hybrids, light-weight materials and design, and more. These are all part of their Blue Drive strategy.

Hyundai Hybrid News Goes Wild the Past Couple of Days
Hyundai has been in the news a few times the past few days, indicating very positive things for the car company (if you're into fuel economy and hybrids).
A couple of days ago, Hyundai chief executive officer John Krafcik let it be known they expect the Sonata hybrid to hit 40 mpg. That would, if it's true as well as the rumours on the price tag ($26,000), make it fiercely competitive with the Ford Hybrid.
Also, Hyundai will introduce a dedicated hybrid (no gas-only version) starting in 2012, with a plug-in version in the works for 2013. Both the hybrid and the plug-in hybrid will use lithium-ion battery packs.
And to top it off, Wayne Gerdes hypermiler extraordinaire, noted he was able to drive the Hyundai Sonata over 1,000 miles on less than one tank of gas. That means he was driving the Sonata at over 62 mpg!
It's no wonder than that people are beginning to question if Hyundai is going to catch Honda in efficiency.
